The ability to astral project is something which every person already possesses; we are in fact born being able to do this. So why are there those who can astral project at will and those who have much less success with the technique? The answer is simple practice.
Believed to be an ancient practice, followers say this practice should be treated with respect. Astral projection is a lot like meditating or yoga and comes in many different forms.
Lucid dreaming is one of the ways that you may astral project. You already know about lucid dreaming; this is the ability to become conscious of your dreams while you are dreaming and start controlling the course of your dream. You can start lucid dreaming by just telling yourself ‘I am dreaming’ while you are in the midst of a dream.
Once you have done this, you will begin to be able to take control of your dream. However, until this technique is mastered (which can take a while), this can be too unreliable of a way to astral project.
Those who practice astral projection believe that it is very real and that most people have done it without even realizing it.
When you awake from a dream remembering every single detail, this was not a dream; you were astral projecting.
The key element to astral projection is to know that you can do it. This will help erase any fears or doubts that you may have that could be keeping you from being able to astral project.
Learning to relax and meditation is another helpful tool when learning to astral project. Your mind and body needs to be prepared to achieve astral projection. Meditation is a great preparation for the experience. Find a meditation you like and practice it.
To begin meditation, sit in a quiet, peaceful room in a comfy chair, make sure that there are no distractions. As you become relaxed, clear your mind of all stress and day to day problems.
Focus on your breathing, which should be slow and deep. As you exhale, visualize all of your worries leaving your mind along with your breath. You’ll soon be in a state of deep relaxation ideal for astral projection.
Now is the point where you need to reach an altered state of consciousness. You need to focus not only on your breathing but the way you are breathing.
As you become more relaxed, your breathing will become deeper and slower.
Starting from your toes, work upwards, relaxing every part of your body as you proceed. You can do this by either tensing then relaxing each part of your body or by moving up, visualizing each part of you relaxing as you go.
You’ll start to feel heavy as you become relaxed.
After you have relaxed your entire body, you’ll be able to begin the next step towards astral projecting.
You will want to go to sleep by now, but do not do that. Find a way to stay alert. Try repeating a command as some experts recommend such as ‘I’m flying, I’m flying.’ It does not matter what it is, just something to keep you alert enough to avoid falling asleep.
Boredom tends to set in when the mind is not stimulated, so you may find yourself losing focus.
If you find yourself doing this, stop the session or to help bring your mind back into focus, continue to repeat your phrase.
To reach the state of altered consciousness you can use the phrase you chose or another way. The body of light method involves picturing an area of light that you will change into. Picture the light in your mind and imagine yourself going into it and becoming a part of it.
There are three things which you should look out for which will let you know that you have managed to astral project. First, you’ll feel as if you are moving – this is your astral body starting to depart on your journey. Next, you’ll see light and colors even though you’ll have your eyes closed.
You will probably hear voices. These voices will warn you to stop or tell you to go ahead. You will know you have been successful in astral projection when you get to this stage.
